MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONES OF “ROHTAK-MEHAM-HANSI NEW RAIL LINE”

MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS SH. MALLIKARJUN KHARGE LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONES OF “ROHTAK-MEHAM-HANSI NEW RAIL LINE” & “SHIFTING OF ROHTAK- MAKRAULI SECTION OF ROHTAK- GOHANA- PANIPAT RAIL LINE” TODAY

Sh. Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister for Railways, laid the foundation stones of the “Rohtak-Meham-Hansi New Rail Line” & “Shifting Of Rohtak- Makrauli Section Of Rohtak- Gohana- Panipat Rail Line” from Hansi and Rohtak respectively today. Sh. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana, presided over both the functions in the august presence of Kumari Selja, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Sh. Oscar Fernandes, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transportation & National Highways, Sh. Deepender Singh Hooda, Hon’ble Member of Parliament(Lok Sabha), Sh. Kuldeep Singh Bishnoi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament(Lok Sabha), Sh. Ranbir Singh Prajapati, Hon’ble Member of Parliament(Rajya Sabha), Sh. Shadi Lal Batra, Hon’ble Member of Parliament(Rajya Sabha), Shri Bharat Bhushan Batra, Hon’ble MLA, Rohtak, Shri Vinod Bhayana, Hon’ble MLA, Hansi, Smt. Savitri Jindal, Hon’ble MLA, Hissar, Sh. Anand Singh Dangi, Hon’ble MLA, Meham, Smt. Shakuntala Khatak, Hon’ble MLA, Kalanaur, Sh. Ram Kishan Fouji, Hon’ble MLA, Bawani Khera and Sh. Ram Niwas Ghorela, Hon’ble MLA, Barwala on the occasion.

Northern Railway will achieve another milestone in bringing direct and shorter rail connectivity between the developing industrial townships of Rohtak and Hissar by constructing a new rail line from Rohtak to Hansi via Mehem. This new rail line was been sanctioned in 2012-13 at an estimated cost of Rs. 406.87 cr on cost-sharing basis with the State of Haryana.

Rohtak and Hissar are connected by railways via two routes, i.e. through Bhiwani and Jakhal, the distance of which is 142.56 Km and 210.60 Km respectively. Once the new Broad Gauge link between Rohtak- Hissar via Hansi is completed, the distance will be reduced to93.919 Km, thus reducing cost of travel with corresponding reduction in travel time.

The new rail line from Rohtak to Hissar via Hansi will have 4 stations – Bahu Akbarpur, Kharkhara, Bahalbah and Sorkhi. Covering the three districts of Rohtak, Bhiwani and Hissar, the rail line will benefit residents of surrounding villages. There will be 7 major bridges and 96 minor bridges including 4 Road-under-Bridges and 37 level-crossings in this rail project. As this region is in proximity to the National Capital region and is marked by dense population, the commissioning of the new rail line will be very beneficial.

Presently the Rohtak- Gohana- Panipat railway line runs via Makrauli. Due to several operational conveniences it has been proposed to shift Rohtak- Makrauli Line. Its immediate benefit is that its alternative route, the Rohtak-Samargopalpur line will provide a third line between the two stations along the main Line. Another important factor is that once this line gets operational no engine reversal will be required on the Delhi Jn.-Panipat and Rewari-Panipat routes and a blind curve of 2 Km and 8 existing level crossing gates will be eliminated. Along with these benefits, another platform will be provided at Rohtak and 2 Road –over- bridges already sanctioned will not be required to be built. The existing line will be dismantled and a road will be constructed in its place.

The relocated line will run parallel to Rohtak-Jind line and theproposed north byepass of Rohtak before reconnecting at Km 8.89 with Rohtak-Panipat line. To facilitate running of traffic from Jind-Panipat via Samargopalpur, thus avoiding Rohtak, one Y- junction is proposed connecting Samargopalpur station and alternate route.

The newRohtak- Mehem– Hansi rail line and shifting of Rohtak- Makrauli Line of Rohtak- Gohana- Panipat Section will upgrade Northern Railway’s capacity to increase its fleet of trains on these sections.

Chairman Railway Board, Sh. Arunendra Kumar, General Manager, Northern Railway, Shri Vijay.Kumar Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction, Northern Railway, Sh. B.D. Garg, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi Division, Sh. A.K. Sachan & Other Senior Railway Officials were also present.

Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Railways Meets Agenda of the Meeting was “Construction of Road Over Bridge/Road Under Bridge (Robs/Rubs on Busy Level Crossings”.

The Minister of Railways, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that At present, Indian Railways has decided to progressively eliminate all unmanned level crossings by generally constructing ROBs/RUBs at unmanned level crossings or by manning the unmanned level crossings. The Railway Minister was speaking at the Consultative Committee meeting of Members of Parliament for Ministry of Railways held here today i. e. 26th July 2013. The agenda for the meeting was “Construction of Road Over Bridge/Road Under Bridge (ROBs/RUBs on busy level crossings”. He said that as on 01.04.2013, Indian Railways have 31,254 level crossings out of which,18,672 (60%) are manned and balance 12,582 (40%) are unmanned. These unmanned level crossings account for maximum number of consequential train accidents.

The Railway Minister further said that Road Over Bridge can be build over level crossings with Train Vehicle Unit (TVU) more than one lakh provided state government or local body is agreed to share 50 percent cost of the project. The Railway Minister said that in order to garner funds for the projects, Indian Railways have requested the State Governments to share the cost of the projects especially for the construction of ROBs/RUBs in respective states. It has also decided that if state governments want to construct level crossings under Public Private Partnership mode, Indian Railways would fully bear the costs of its Railway share on the projects, Shri Kharge added.

Referring to fund constraints, the Railway Minister pointed out that Indian Railways need funds for various ongoing projects like new lines, gauge conversion, doubling projects, construction of ROBs/RUBs etc. Due to limited availability of resources and with funds distributed over large numbers of projects, the Indian Railways were not able to achieve the desired level of progress.

The Exhibition will be on display from 20th to 26thJuly, 2013. Entry for the Exhibition is free and the Exhibition will be open for viewers from 10 00 am to 05 00 pm on these days. Salar Jung Museumis the space provider for the Exhibition.
A Brief on the Photo Exhibition

to Commemorate “160 Years of Indian Railways”

Born in the year 1853, Indian Railways has entered into its 160th year of its existence in 2013. The journey is quite long, but not tiresome. Indian Railways has crossed many mile stones during the last 160 yearsand has become a more vibrant transport organisation. It is the largest railway net work under one management, possesses the largest Passenger Reservation System, carried out the largest gauge conversion from meter gauge to broad gauge and the largest transport sector employer in the world. As a part of its celebrations to commemorate 160 years of its existence, the Ministry of Railways is organising a Photo Exhibition at important Cities in our Country.

The first such exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Vinay Mittal, Chairman, Railway Board, at Twin Art Gallery, Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra, Janpath, New Delhi which was organised from 24th May to 2nd June, 2013. Subsequently, the exhibition, with the same exhibits, was conducted at Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai before it is opened at Hyderabad. After Hyderabad, this exhibition will move to Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Allahabad, Jaipur and Patna. Entry for the Exhibition is free.

The Exhibition on “160 Years of Indian Railways” showcasesselected photographs from the archives of Indian Railways. History is witness to the fact that Indian Railways formed the Nation that is India today and it cannot be separated from its social fabric. Indian Railways has grown with India and has not only bequeathed the country its vast architectural heritage in the form of station buildings and other infrastructures but is also the pivot of the Nation’s economy today. It is impossible to imagine an India without its Railways. The railways in their own powerful way have paved the way for the growth of the nation and thus is a lasting symbol of India’s unity.

While the Railways is marching steadily towards the future, it is imperative to remember the very foundations on which it was built. It is time to reclaim the past which may be getting lost in the annals of time. Moreover, it has always been theobjective of Indian Railways to preserve the past as its rich history is undeniably one of the most compelling tales in the story of India. This photo exhibition culls out the interesting moments of the life of this organisation concentrating primarily on the first 100 years of it existence which was a period of great turbulence for the Railways as well as the world.

It seeks to bring the railways back into the forefront of public consciousness. It takes the narrative of the railways back in time from its current point, revisit memories in sepia and black and white tones to understand the transitional, exciting, tumultuous phases that this organization has gone through. The railways in India as elsewhere in the world, revolutionized traditional concept of space and time and led to new geographies being formed.

The photo exhibition does not trace the history of Indian Railways sequentially from 1853 to the present. It is a thematic portrayal of the many facets of this organisation. Through many are photographs sourced from railway archives, Press Information Bureau, Railway Museums, the importance of the railways in the lives of the people, its role as an integrating force, as a catalyst of history and as a mute spectator to the unfolding historical events have been showcased.

The photographs, encompassing all the fundamental aspects of the railways are evocative of an era long gone but which has shaped the present. The ‘Personalities’ section’ is of special interest as it reveals the view of some eminent leaders on the Railways. Simi8larly, the sections on ‘Station Architecture’ are of immense interest as they more than anything else speak of the time in history of their construction. Their interiors are reflections of the society, the social stratification, while their exteriors present a larger picture of the developmental stage of the town and city. It has been dedicated to the workmen, who are solely responsible for the running of the trains. The photographs reflects the hard labour which is put in to transport millions of people across thousands of kilometers, marking the practices most of which are still fundamental to railway working today.
