Delhi Metro's Jahangirpuri–Samaypur Badli corridor to be extended soon

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will start work on extending the Jahangirpuri to Samaypur Badli corridor and the Badarpur to Faridabad stretch in early 2015, Managing Director Mangu Singh said on Wednesday. Further, the work on the ‘heritage corridor’ from Kashmere Gate to ITO will be completed by December 2015, he added.
“In the first part of 2015, Badli extension and Faridabad extension will surely be launched and towards December, Kashmere Gate to ITO work will almost be completed,” said Mr. Singh on the sidelines of function to celebrate 12 years of Delhi Metro’s operations.
Last month, Mr. Singh wrote to Delhi Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia over land acquisition issues in Phase-III construction and said that work was stuck in a few “critical” areas such as Trilokpuri, Punjabi Bagh and Naraina. “Work cannot progress as long as those are not cleared. But progress is satisfactory at many areas,” the DMRC MD said.
Stating that he hoped that the Detailed Project Report for Phase-IV will soon be sanctioned by the government, he said: “We have prepared the Phase-IV DPR and we want that to be sanctioned and its funding tie-up to be completed so that we can take up Phase-IV work by the time we finish Phase-III work as part of the Urban Development Ministry's plan to decongest Delhi.”
Meanwhile, official data released by the Delhi Metro has shown a steady rise in monthly total ridership of the Airport Express line which saw a peak to 5.17 lakh commuters in August 2014 from 3.9 lakh in June this year. Last month, 5,38,293 commuters used the Airport Line with average daily ridership at 17,943.
Ridership across all of the Delhi Metro’s network has also seen an increase compared to 2013 in the January to November time period.

The 37 years old National Rail Museum is located in over 10 acres of land & has both indoor and outdoor exhibits. In all there are 91 outdoor exhibits, some of them are about 150 years old. Electric traction of trains between Madurai – Tirunelveli from December 29

Madurai railway division will start electric traction of major passenger trains from December 29, and started operating Trichy - Tirunelveli Intercity Express under electric traction on a trial basis from Monday. Divisional railway manager A K Rastogi said that they were conducting trials with Trichy - Tirunelveli Intercity Express till December 27 or 28.
"After that we will start electric traction of six daily trains and four more weekly and biweekly trains, running to long distances like Howrah," he said.
Earlier, Rastogi has announced that Pearl City Express, Nellai Express, Ananthapuri Express, Kanyakumari Express, Guruvayur Express and Trichy - Tirunelveli Intercity Express will go on electric traction after commissioner of railway safety (CRS) S K Mittal completed his statutory safety audit on Virudhunagar - Vanchimaniyachchi - Tuticorin and Vanchimaniyachchi - Tirunelveli sections on December 11. Four more long-distance trains will go on electric traction from December 29, railway officials said.
With a total route of 189km, the project of electrification between Madurai and Tirunelveli/Tuticorin at a cost of Rs 175 crore was sanctioned in 2009-2010. The work started in May 2010 and was successfully completed by October this year. According to railway officials, electric traction will improve train speed by 40 to 60 minutes since there will be smooth acceleration and deceleration of trains. It will also save lakhs of rupees the railway spends on diesel fuel to haul trains using diesel locomotives and subsequent loco failures leaving trains stranded in between. Moreover, it will provide seamless traction from Chennai till Thiruvananthapuram and beyond.
The need to swap diesel for electric locomotive can be ruled out for trains running beyond Madurai since electric traction at present ends in Madurai. However, it is available beyond Tirunelveli. As the first electric train arrived to Tirunelveli on Monday, rail users' forums welcomed the trains.
